Annamalai University to introduce tele-conferencing system soon

CUDDALORE: 

       Annamalai University will soon introduce tele-conferencing system in place of contact classes for select subjects under distance education mode, said Vice-Chancellor M. Ramanathan.

           He was addressing a press conference on the premises of the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) of the university at Chidambaram near here on Wednesday. Mr. Ramanathan said that wide area network (WAN) system installed in the Chennai and Delhi study centres would be utilised for the teleconferencing purpose. The WAN was already in place in 10 study centres across the country, of which six were located in Tamil Nadu, and more centres would be brought under the system. In conformity with the motto of the Distance Education Council that distance education had seamless borders, the DEC was expanding its programmes to students of Uganda, Ethiopia and Indonesia from the coming academic year.

        The Vice-Chancellor said that the DDE had on its roll a total of 4.25 lakh students studying 525 distance education programmes. Seventeen new programmes, including M.Sc in building and real estate valuation, postgraduate diplomas in mobile computing and cyber security, and, diploma in bio-pesticides production technology would be introduced from this academic year. The programmes were designed to meet the requirements of job markets. The DDE had also entered into an agreement with 12 companies to utilise their infrastructure for various distance education programmes. Mr. Ramanathan also released the prospectus and applications for the distance education programmes on the occasion.
