General strike evinced partial response in Cuddalore on Tuesday.

The Called for by the Opposition parties against the inflationary trend evoked mixed response in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts on Tuesday.
Over 600 cadre belonging to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were arrested when they tried to disturb public utilities. Though the day generally passed off peacefully, showcases of three textile showrooms in Vriddhachalam were damaged by certain miscreants in the morning. Cadre of the Communist Party of India, led by M. Sekar, obstructed the movement of buses at Panruti.
Commercial hubs such as Lawrence Road in Cuddalore looked deserted as only a handful of shops remained open. While the transport corporation operated the regular fleet of services, private bus operators owing allegiance to the Opposition parties withdrew their services.In certain areas, mini-buses and autorickshaws were off the road. Essential services went on without any interruption. Heavy security was maintained at bus stands, railway stations, commercial complexes, places of worship and vegetable markets. Mobile parties were deployed to monitor the situation.
